Production art covers a range of different tasks and I have included explanations and specific examples for each below.
Mechanicals
One of the more important skills when producing a product destined for the printer is understanding and creating optimized files, often referred to as mechanicals.
Templates and Branding
Though admittedly not glamorous it is crucial in production art to be able to design based on templates. It is also vital to be able to place branding elements such as company and product logos consistently across multiple products.
Marketing Materials
An often overlooked job of the production artist is the creation of marketing materials. While it may seem natural to assume this is done by taking a picture of a product it is instead frequently done with computer software.
